Xmas Card

The inequalities of the world will not desappear with money, politicians or religions, only with love.
That is Christmas! Christmas is the time of giving and sharing.
I truly wish you a very merry Christmas, and a happy new year.

GREEN STREET HOOLIGANS

Fisrt of all, I want to explain the meaning of this unusual world: "Hooligans"; it's the name of the extremist fans of British football teams who usually have a destructive behavior such as rioting, bullying, and vandalism, I mean, football fanatics that go over the edge.

Knowing this, we can get an idea of the level of violence that this movie has. This kind of fights are usual in this country, something I had no idea about until I saw the film. As it appears in the movie, this group of pelople don't really care about the football match, but the fight that takes place after it.

Apart from this dark side of the film, there is a teaching that all of us should learn: the importance of friendship. They fight together, no matter if the opponent double them in number. "Stand your ground", as they say. I think that's a great value which I admire.

UNIT 2

23 C/ Calzadas
Burgos, España
18th November 2012
High School Department
Coordinator of issues of high school students
Dear Mr Martin,
I am writing to express my complaint regarding the lack of motivation that teachers convey to the students that will be in the university soon. This year, they will have to study really hard in order to have good marks and go to the university they like, so I think the best way to encourage the students is to pay them for their incredible effort.

First of all, they go every single day to school at 8.00 am, and they come home at 2.20 pm, but it doesn't finish here, they have to do the homework and study for all the subjects they had in the morning. It must be added the pressure of exams too.

In conclusion, they work more than 8 hours, the average of a normal employee, so they deserve a material reward.
I look forward to your reply.
Yours faithfully,
Ana Martínez

Education and celebrities

Would you like your kids to have a education based on a celebrity as a role model? I wouldn't.

In the first place, most of them are spoilt and rude people whose behavior is embarrassing. They usually get drunk when they go to parties and some of them abuse of drugs. Although they have no real talent, they have a fortune just for doing nothing. For instance, Paris Hilton is an heiress to the Hilton Hotels.

I think the values that celebrities transmit to their public are superficial and the perfect roles models for a kid are his parents.

This is a funny picture that shows some students in a class. Most of them are slept because we can see in the backgruond that it is in the morning and they probably have just arrived to school. There is only one person whose eyes are opened.

One of the student seems to have a headache. I would say that last night they went partying and that's the reason why they are so tired.

I imagine they are waiting for the teacher to star the class, and when he will appeare, he will be surprised of the scene.

Fame is overwhelming

I think being a celebrity is synonym of being under pressure. Famous people are always in the spotlight and the magazines often gossip about them, so it is easy that impressions of glamour fool them and they become a bad role model.

That is what happened to Amy Winehouse. Amy,who won five Grammy Awards, was a singer and songwriter known for her jazz and soul music. Although she had a huge talent, she received media attention because of her self-destructive behavior. In several interviewsshe admitted having problems with depression and drug addiction.
At the age of 27, Amy was found dead in her London apartment.

From my point of view, most of the time, the price of fame is paid very high.
